Zoological Society of Kerala
The Zoological Society of Kerala is a voluntary professional organisation of Zoology teachers, established in 1989 and registered under charitable society act with Reg.no.K/396/89. With 160 committed members, we stand united by a shared academic vision and professional responsibility.
Malabar banded swallow tail butterfly, Papilio liomeden, endemic to South-Western Ghats and one of the rarest species of S India.
Aim
To provide a vibrant forum for discussion, innovation, and implementation of programmes that enhance professional efficiency and elevate the quality of teaching, learning, and evaluation in Zoology.
Mission and Activities
Over the years, the Society has:
• Promoted academic excellence and encouraged research among Zoology teachers
• Assisted universities in curriculum development and examination reforms
• Published books, journals, laboratory manuals, and question banks covering the entire B.Sc. Zoology syllabus
• Advocated conservation of nature and sustainable use of natural resources
• Organised tests, competitions, and awards to recognise and nurture student talent
Academic Initiatives and Curriculum Development
The Society has played a meaningful role in curriculum revision by ensuring that every teacher’s voice is heard. Through collaborative meetings conducted at various centres, we actively contributed to the curriculum revision process of M.G. University and formulated a curriculum policy for B.Sc. Zoology.
Our Vision 2014 envisioned the development of a Swadeshi, environmentally rooted, and culturally enriched curriculum, while inspiring similar initiatives across disciplines.
Annual living camps and academic discussions further strengthen our commitment to the continuous professional growth of teachers and the holistic development of students.
ZOOFEST – The Academic Festival
Our annual gatherings began with the noble objective of encouraging active Zoology Associations in colleges through the institution of the “Best Association Ever Rolling Trophy.”
Over time, this initiative evolved into ZOOFEST, a dynamic academic festival that serves as an alternative platform for evaluation, creativity, and excellence.
Through manuscript magazine competitions, quizzes, dissections, and scientific drawing events, ZOOFEST celebrates and nurtures the multifaceted talents of students while fostering academic interaction and healthy competition among institutions.
Strength
The true strength of the Zoological Society of Kerala lies in its vibrant, dedicated teachers and enthusiastic students. Together, we go beyond classroom teaching—nurturing scientific temper, curiosity, innovation, and a deep sense of responsibility towards nature and society.
